Pamplemousse Grille is a refined French-influenced eatery located just north of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Chef and owner Jeffrey Strauss has earned a rave Zagat review for his innovative fusing of French and New American cuisine. Creative meals are prepared using fresh local ingredients and paired with an impressive wine list. Brigantine is a popular casual choice for surf ‘n’ turf close to the Fairgrounds on Camino Del Mar. Specialties at this relaxed eatery include oysters on the half shell, crab-stuffed jumbo prawns wrapped in bacon, and half-pound wagyu burgers.
Brigantine’s signature tacos are a must-try, and the menu also includes tacos packed with crispy lobster tempura or grilled spiced swordfish.
Jake’s Del Mar is a celebrated oceanfront restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows providing mesmerizing views over the Pacific. Jake’s offers delicious steak and seafood entrees and Sunday brunch specials. Jake’s also provides a great choice of local craft beers, wines, and beach-themed cocktails.
Powerhouse Park overlooks Del Mar City Beach with open grass lawns, walking paths, a playground for kids, and showers for beachgoers. There’s also food shacks and rental tents offering surfboards, bodyboards, and wetsuits. Del Mar City Beach stretches from Powerhouse Park to a lagoon on the San Dieguito River. The beach to the north of the lagoon is popularly known as Del Mar Dog Beach. Dogs are allowed to use the beach freely except during the summer when they must be on a leash. Del Mar Dog Beach also has some quality surf breaks around the sand bars and reefs close to the river mouth
Summer Twilight Concerts at Powerhouse Park bring an eclectic lineup of live music to the oceanfront between June and August. Opening Day at Del Mar Race Track is another summer highlight you won’t want to miss. The summer racing season begins in July with around 30,000 spectators cheering on the first day of races. The Opening Day Hats Contest adds to the party atmosphere, with attendees competing to bring along the most eye-catching headwear.
